3) Lay the pizza crust on a lightly floured surface (you don’t want it to be sticky) and cut it into 10 strips.

4) Then roll each strip around the hot dog making sure to pinch the top and bottom end of the dough so it doesn’t unravel, place them on the prepared baking sheet while you work on the rest.

5) Place them in the boiling water (a few at a time) and cook them for about 30 seconds making sure to flip them halfway through, then place them back on the parchment paper lined baking sheet.

6) Brush them with the beaten egg, sprinkle some salt on top and pop them in the oven to bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.IMG_4901.jpgIMG_4900.jpg

7) When you take them out of the oven, brush the tops with the melted butter and serve!IMG_4902.jpgIMG_4906.jpg

Profiteroles

Happy Wednesday and Happy 2018! I’m still in holiday season diet mode so I thought I’d share this recipe on Profiteroles. A profiterole, cream puff, or choux à la crème is a filled French choux pastry ball with a filling of whipped cream. It’s perfect for dessert, a pastry alongside your afternoon tea, or even just to snack on! A deliciously decadent French dessert, Profiteroles can be rightly tagged as a sinful concoction for the senses. With a lot of patience, let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz butter
  • salt
  • 8 eggs
  • 1.8 lbs water
  • 8 oz flour

Directions:

  1. In a sauce pan on low-medium heat boil the butter, water & salt.
  2. Using a whisk stir continuously and slowly add the flour while still stirring. This ensures no lumps are formed. This is the choux pastry dough. It is important to set it aside to COOL FULLY. Takes about 20-30 min.FullSizeRender-1.jpgIMG_4224.JPG
  3. Preheat oven to 392°F
  4. Once the mixture is cooled fully beat the mixture while adding the egg one by one to form a smooth paste like dough.
  5. Pipe the dough into small round ball or alternatively use a spoon to place the dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  6. The tops can be flattened with a spoon dipped in water if required.
  7. Place in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes.
  8. Then decrease the temperature to 320°F and bake for 15-20 more minutes when the color turns golden brown.
  9. Once the pastry is cool, slit the choux pastry using a bread knife leaving the end joined together.
  10. Pipe / spoon the cream on the cut surface one at a time.
  11. Pour the chocolate sauce and serve.
  12. This can be served as a cold dish or served with hot chocolate sauce.FullSizeRender-2.jpgFullSizeRender-3.jpg

This serves about 6 people.

Meta Matcha

Matcha is the new green drink to drink nowadays. My friends at Meta Matcha were kind enough to send me their matcha powder to try out and I can’t say enough good things about it. It’s pure, delicious, and so good for you. You can incorporate it into your every day meals, whether if it’s just a glass of water, or even bake it into brownies!FullSizeRender-12.jpg

Meta Matcha’s mission is to provide a beverage that unlocks the energy within, elevating us to a state of mental clarity and self-discovery. They strive to make the Matcha lifestyle available to everyone. Their vision is that Matcha soon emerges as a viable coffee alternative and that people use the energy of Matcha to better their lives. Just as the consumption of thousands of MetaMatcha formulas has lead to the creation and growth of MetaMatcha, they want MetaMatcha to be the vessel to allow others to optimize the functionality of their lives and to exceed their potential.

What is green tea? Green tea comes from the plant camellia sinensis. Green tea is not oxidized, unlike black tea, so there is little alteration of the natural properties and flavor of the tea, resulting in increased retention of antioxidants, specifically EGCG (epigallactocatechin gallate). Matcha is a special type of green tea: FullSizeRender-4.jpg

Matcha’s unique growing process, harvesting techniques and consumption method enables it to provide superior health benefits compared to regular green tea.
Matcha’s abundant antioxidants speeds up metabolism and works at the cellular level to scrub harmful free radicals. The antioxidant capacity of Matcha is five fold more than blueberries, cleansing toxins and rejuvenating cells.
The positive effects on mind and body leads to an overall healthier version of yourself. Drinking Matcha is a lifestyle that strengthens your ability to do more, providing both energy and focus to exceed your potential.

Natures Tradition: Organic Ceremonial grade Matcha powder from Nishio, Japan –best used for lattes and beverage mixes, but can also be consumed plain with water or mixed with smoothies.FullSizeRender-5.jpg

Better Dessert with Better Together Baking

Now you can indulge in dessert without having to feel bad about it! With the brownies at Better Together Baking, it’s impossible to skip out on dessert after a meal.FullSizeRender-3.jpg

Better Together Baking decided to take this classic American treat and make it better. Each flavor uniquely its own and handcrafted with ingredients chosen purposefully. No junk, no preservatives, no trans-fats, just pure simple ingredients to make a most awesome brownie. The result a classic treat made grand again.

About Better Together Baking: Planning was never Todd’s strong suit. He never planned on starting a baking company. As it turns out when you want to follow your dream sometimes it is best to not have a plan. Sitting in his cube one day buried in spreadsheets he knew it was time for change. Later that day he turned to his wife(Kes) and told her he wanted to start a baking company. It was scary yet exciting, but such as it is when you follow your dream. So they both quit their jobs in D.C. and moved to Philly.  Their mission was simple; to make classic American treats (like the brownie) and make them better, together.FullSizeRender-11 2.jpg

These brownies are made with a purpose, with love, like your mom might do. This is why we say around here they are heartfelt good.
