JCD Brands LLC, maker of START! Sauce, was founded as a family business after observing the lack of a relatively healthy curry spice flavored sauce to be used for everyday Western foods by American households. Evoking the holistic benefits of traditional spices we sought to provide a great-tasting crossover sauce that was low in sodium and free of any artificial or relatively harmful ingredients typically seen in other Asian and international sauces. Their mission is to utilize our tried and true family recipes spanning multiple generations to provide low sodium, vegetarian, all natural and great tasting condiment options for multiple food preparation uses on Western and Eastern foods. Enjoy all of their tasty + health friendly flavors:

Profiteroles

Happy Wednesday and Happy 2018! I’m still in holiday season diet mode so I thought I’d share this recipe on Profiteroles. A profiterole, cream puff, or choux à la crème is a filled French choux pastry ball with a filling of whipped cream. It’s perfect for dessert, a pastry alongside your afternoon tea, or even just to snack on! A deliciously decadent French dessert, Profiteroles can be rightly tagged as a sinful concoction for the senses. With a lot of patience, let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz butter
  • salt
  • 8 eggs
  • 1.8 lbs water
  • 8 oz flour

Directions:

  1. In a sauce pan on low-medium heat boil the butter, water & salt.
  2. Using a whisk stir continuously and slowly add the flour while still stirring. This ensures no lumps are formed. This is the choux pastry dough. It is important to set it aside to COOL FULLY. Takes about 20-30 min.FullSizeRender-1.jpgIMG_4224.JPG
  3. Preheat oven to 392°F
  4. Once the mixture is cooled fully beat the mixture while adding the egg one by one to form a smooth paste like dough.
  5. Pipe the dough into small round ball or alternatively use a spoon to place the dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  6. The tops can be flattened with a spoon dipped in water if required.
  7. Place in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes.
  8. Then decrease the temperature to 320°F and bake for 15-20 more minutes when the color turns golden brown.
  9. Once the pastry is cool, slit the choux pastry using a bread knife leaving the end joined together.
  10. Pipe / spoon the cream on the cut surface one at a time.
  11. Pour the chocolate sauce and serve.
  12. This can be served as a cold dish or served with hot chocolate sauce.FullSizeRender-2.jpgFullSizeRender-3.jpg

This serves about 6 people.

RedRocks in OldTown

Hi everyone! Almost everyone in the world loves pizza. Although all pizza may look the same, they often are made differently. To me, how one makes pizza is the most important. At RedRocks Pizza, their pizza is made in a wood fire and offers neapolitan style pizzas. RedRocks have locally inspired dishes. No wonder their pizza is award winning!

Redrocks, located in Old Town Alexandria, is such a cute place, it’s perfect for date night, date lunch, or even perfect for family and friends gathering. Although it looks like a small place from the outside, the inside proves you wrong. The ambiance has such a nice warm feel to it. It definitely feels intimate but also fun. I love how the kitchen with the wood fire for the pizzas was open so you can actually see how your pizza is made! FullSizeRender-9.jpgFullSizeRender-6.jpgFullSizeRender-5.jpgIMG_4103.JPG

I was able to try house toast, which is made from scratch as well, the il fungo pizza, and the charred brussels sprouts. Check out what I thought of each below!

IMG_4107.JPGIMG_4099.JPG

The house toast is also made from scratch alongside everything else. It was so soft and the most amazing bread I’ve ever tasted. The olive oil and spiced olive oil were on another level. Just as amazing! I didn’t know something so simple could be out of this world.

FullSizeRender-13.jpgFullSizeRender-7.jpg

The il Fungo pizza! Oh my, I could literally eat this forever. It had the right amount of cheese, the right types of cheese. Wood fire pizza does make the difference when it comes to pizzas. Although it may look small, it’s so filling. The mixed mushrooms, fontina cheese, goat cheese, thyme, and oil = such an unbelievable combination. To die for!

FullSizeRender-10.jpgIMG_4097.JPG

To be honest- I was never a fan of brussels sprouts. I was afraid to try this because I assumed it would taste bitter. I never really tried brussels sprouts before this. However, wow, was I wrong. These charred brussels sprouts were amazing! I surprisingly finished the whole plate and got my vegetable serving in! It was really hard to believe I was just eating vegetables. Truly tasty.

I would highly recommend RedRocks any day at any time!FullSizeRender-12.jpgFullSizeRender-11.jpg
